The concept UPPSAMT and the component RAK - Rail App Kiosk, is a powerful cloud-based, cross-platform and context-aware productivity tool for many different types of rail personnel. The collaborating components are; RIM - Real time vehicle based Infrastructure Monitoring, and RVM - Real time Vehicle Monitoring.
Using the initial demo apps contained within the UPPSAMT RAK demo container, authorised users are able to experience a concepts that helps; on-board staff and train drivers to capture and record information about deviations, defects and damages to infrastructure and vehicles; maintenance and construction staff to receive real time monitoring data and work orders with spare part recommendations, report on events related to the maintenance actions such as progress, milestones, delays and incidents, and finally helps on-board staff to remain updated on the status of related traffic disturbances and information (BASUN) in order to provide the best possible passenger service, despite defects and disturbances.
In the first demo version some features rely on actual live data, while others uses demo data.
Later demo versions will e.g. include a "Site Manager" and "Mobile Site Diary" app, where users are able to capture and record information about daily events related to maintenance and engineering projects such as daily allocations, milestones, delays and incidents. This information includes the ability to add titles, descriptions, resources and photographs to a simple timeline and highlight particular details for analysis and reporting in a secure cloud-based backend system. The app will also include a weather widget that automatically records the weather conditions against recorded events.

About RAK - the solution comprises two main components - the mobile applications (more to follow) and a cloud hosted management platform which allows collaboration between users, supervisors and the back office to ensure that e.g. approvals can be made, records are safely synchronised and reports can be produced.
